End year 2023 Deployment region -
Description

We propose to deploy approximately 45 seismometers at 10 km spacing along the Alpine Fault in the South Island of New Zealand, in order to record the ambient seismic field for virtual earthquake analysis and calculation of regional ground motions. Subject to funding being approved, we will deploy the instruments for up to two years in a swath extending 5 km on either side of the Alpine Fault and extending from Milford Sound to Maruia. Funding for this project of NZ0,000 (~US0,000) over three years has been approved by the Marsden Fund of the Royal Society of New Zealand, Te Apārangi. The provisional project start date is 1 March 2020 but this is likely to be brought forward during the contracting process.
