FDSN Network Information

FDSN code YZ (2015-2016) Network name Establishing Background Microseismicity at Proposed Geothermal Site at Cornell Univerity (Cornell MIcroseismicity)
Start year 2015 Operated by
  • Cornell University, United States of America
End year 2016 Deployment region
Description

We plan to operate a small array near a proposed geothermal well site near the Ithaca campus to determine whether there exists microseismicity at magnitudes below the detection threshold of previous regional seismic arrays (e.g. EarthScope TA). If such microseismicity is detected, we also hope to establish whether it is related to pre-existing faults near the site. In addition,we intend to use this experiment as a means of informing the local populace on the scale of any seismic risk associated with geothermal development at this site
