Description

We propose deploying a dense Texan network on the Slumgullion landslide in Colorado, where other types of data will be and have been collected. Striking parallels between plate boundary processes of slow slip and landslide behaviors exist; e.g. in both key controls include pore-water pressures and sliding interface heterogeneity. The Slumgullion landslide is known to slip steadily and in transient episodes, and during a prototype experiment on the Slumgullion in 1993 we recorded seismic signals plausibly analogous to those generated by earthquakes and to tremor. Thus, we plan to do a more thorough study of the seismic signature of slip on the Slumgullion landslide.
