FDSN code X3 (2022-2024) Network name AlbaNian TectonIcs of Continental Subduction (ANTICS)
Start year 2022 Operated by
End year 2024 Deployment region -
Description

The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (Germany) and the GFZ (German Research Centre for Geosciences) in collaboration with the Institute of GeoSciences, Energy, Water and Environment of the Polytechnic University Tirana (Albania) study the continental subduction beneath Albania. This will be achieved by a large N experiment with 400 stations using 4.5-Hz natural frequency 3-component geophones (approx. 90% of the stations) and 3-component broadband stations covering an area 90 km by 90 km. Additionally, there will be two dense profiles: (a) one in the North of Albania across Durrës earthquake rupture zone into the Albanides fold and thrust belt (to the border to Northern Macedonia, 90 km); (b) another dense profile in the South of Albania through the onset of the shear zone (500 m inter-station distance; 90 km length).
