FDSN Network Information

FDSN code 5F (2024-2024) Network name Wainright Passive Seismic (Wainright Passive Seismic)
Start year 2024 Operated by
  • Alaska DNR
End year 2024 Deployment region -
Description

Using SmartSolo 5hz Nodes passive seismic sensors, we hope to image the basement geology of an area in and around the city of Fairbanks, Alaska. The cubic dimensions we are looking at are 12 km x 12 km x 1 km deep. We wish to further our understandings of the geology and any active faulting. Utilizing passive seismic will lead us to understanding the hydrology systems that feed various hot and mineral springs in the area for potential geothermal production. We want to: Image basement rocks below sediments. Confirm the depth of the basement and image the different layers above, as well as try to determine active faults.
