Description

An M5.7 earthquake occurred at 7:09am local time. There are initial reports of significant damage to infrastructure throughout the Salt Lake Valley (home to ~1 million residents) but no fatalities at this time. It is presently unclear which fault segments were involved in this event, though the Wasatch fault zone, Great Salt Lake fault, and Oquirrh fault are all candidates. We are deploying nodal sensors to target the aftershock sequence, which has already produced several felt events, and local fault structure. We have 62 sensors on-hand in Utah; these will be deployed by the end of the day 3/18/2020. We will add additional sensors, including the PASSCAL instruments, as they become available. We can handle the job programming and data download at UUtah.
