FDSN Network Information

FDSN code 1C (2022-2025) Network name CANALAB Project - Temporary Seismic Deployment (CANALAB)
Start year 2022 Operated by
End year 2025 Deployment region -
Description

The deployment of this high-resolution seismic observatory consists of 2 lines of closely spaced (3-5 km) broad-band stations across the Cantabrian Mountains (Northern Spain) and several auxiliary stations at both sides of the profiles. By using techniques such as receiver function analysis and ambient noise tomography, this deploymet will allow us to improve our knowledge of the crustal structure and composition (e.g. Vp/Vs) of two key areas of this mountain belt that are subjected to intense scientific debates. It will also help to identify local active seismic sources.

Additional Notes Part of the data will be acquired with instruments from the Geophysical Instrument Pool Potsdam (GIPP). According to the signed contract, raw data acquired with GIPP instruments belong to the user. Data is reserved for the user up to 4 years after the completion of the experiment (embargo period). Data as well as a report have to be handed over to the GFZ within a year after completion of the experiment. Data and report (data description) are archived in the “GIPP Experiment and Data Archive” and in the GEOFON Data Center, respectively. During the embargo period the user is responsible to provide the information regarding access authorizations. After the end of the embargo period, data and report (with DOI) will be made freely available (through the “GIPP experiment- and data archive” or the “seismological data archive (GEOFON)”) under a Creative Common License (CC-BY) v. 4.0 or a similar later, potentially different open content license. Scientists involved in the experiment have to be listed as co- authors of the data publication. Different license agreements are only possible if the user is obligated to or bound by requirements of the funding organization.
